Indigo is a special forces group operating under the direct authority of the Consensus, technically being a branch of, and drawing manpower from, the Valbaran Army.

The group traces its roots back to the invasion of Valbara in 2625, where its earliest incarnation was formed from units that cut their teeth during the defense of major cities such as Yilgarn and Anabar. As the orbital battle raged above, showers of Betelgeusian drop pods landed on the planet’s surface, sowing chaos and stretching the embattled defenders thin. Brutal street-to-street fighting took place as Drones rampaged through major urban centers, where they were met by Commando units, many of which had little to no practical combat experience.

After the successful defense of the planet in coordination with the UNN Rorke and her fleet, it wasn’t long before a counter-invasion plan was hatched. This eventually culminated in the Coalition invasion of Kerguela in 2627.

Flocks that showed special aptitude or great heroism during the hectic urban battles were recruited to serve as Ensi Xipa’tla’nemi’s personal guard aboard her command carrier the Vengeance, and were deployed on special missions to the forest moon’s embattled surface, where they carried out force recon and sabotage assignments against enemy forces in the Yellow and Blue zones of engagement.

Notably, they participated in the evacuation of survivors from the colony’s ruins, putting their growing experience with urban warfare and sabotage to good use to stall and misdirect Betelgeusian forces as they advanced to the spaceport.

Even after the campaign was deemed a success, fighting continued on Kerguela for many months, with Coalition forces using the scattered and uncoordinated Betelgeusian remnants as live fire training for fresh units.

It was during this period of time that Ensi Xipa’tla’nemi petitioned the Consensus for the formation of her personal guard and other notable units from the campaign into a true special forces group – the first of its kind. Taking lessons from Valbaran military experience, examples drawn from the UNN, and unconventional tactics honed by Kerguela’s surviving population, Indigo Group was founded. Led by Tela’xol’vati, an experienced Commando whose flock was largely entrusted with commanding the Consensus fleet in Xipa’s absence, Indigo began to establish themselves as a reliable and effective force.

Today, Indigo is deployed in a similar capacity to the UNN’s SWAR or the venerable Broker Hazard Teams, conducting small-unit special operation missions in hostile or sensitive environments that are unsuited to conventional Commando units. These missions might include the assassination of high-level targets, the sabotage of enemy infrastructure, or intelligence gathering in hostile territory, where their mobility and unconventional tactics give them an edge.

The group has access to specialized equipment and experimental weapons, favoring both long-range engagements by sniper and spotter teams, along with tactics adapted from Kerguelan CQB techniques. Mobility is an important tool in their arsenal, with dropships conducting airborne insertions and Gue’tra transport vehicles being especially favored. There is very little standardization when it comes to uniforms and equipment, with Indigo having the freedom to equip their units based on mission parameters.

Members of Indigo Group are often identified by their indigo armbands and regalia, the blend of red and blue hues being symbolic of their service.

(Even Commandos need some time off!)
