Here’s the roster of armored vehicles for the upcoming Jakkari story. These come courtesy of our friend SickJoe, and you can find more of his work here: https://www.deviantart.com/sickjoe
The Turgu-279 (Jakkari: Armor-clad) is the main battle tank employed by the Jakkari armed forces. Sporting thick molybdenum alloy armor and a powerful main gun, the Turgu is well-equipped for the harsh conditions of frontline combat. With a cannon designed for extreme velocity and long-range engagements, the Turgu excels in countering enemy armor and low-flying spacecraft, able to accelerate projectiles to excesses of 5km/s with its gas cannon. Surrounding the tank are several defensive sponsons employing a blend of gas weapons and conventional rotary cannons to defend the vehicle from infantry wave tactics often employed by Betelgeusians to overwhelm large targets. These are coupled with a suite of countermeasures and sensors intended to protect the vehicle and increase the crew’s situational awareness.
Often described as cramped, the Turgu’s commander sits within a ring-shaped carousel that moves shells from racks in the rear of the turret and loads them into the gun breach, using the cupola and external video cameras for visibility. Blowout panels help to mitigate the danger of ammunition cookoff, but the volatile nature of the fuel and propellant gases used usually makes such penetrating hits destructive.
Like all Jakkari equipment, the comparatively low gravity of its intended operating environment goes some way towards mitigating its excessive weight. The screw drives perform well in common battlefield conditions, where they provide excellent traction in loose mediums like regolith and snow.
The Grogir-950 IFV (Jakkari: Chariot) is the workhorse of the Jakkari military, serving as a heavily armored and highly mobile frontline troop transport, able to carry one fully equipped squad in armor. The Grogir provides fire support with a heavy gas gun mounted on its main turret, which is capable of firing depleted uranium rounds, along with specialized loads such as high-ex and chemical shells. A secondary squad support weapon mounted on a gimbal provides cover for disembarking troops, while gun ports in the troop bay allow passengers and crew to help defend the vehicle from enemy infantry. Troops riding in the Grogir can hook into its power delivery system, which is attached to rails that run around the outer hull, permitting them to remain tethered while advancing alongside it.
The Grogir uses a blend of molybdenum alloy armor and ceramic plating to help mitigate the effects of thermal attacks and explosive weapons – the same kind used on its larger counterparts. However, this armor is thinner and lighter to provide better speed and mobility. The screw drive propulsion system excels in the environments the vehicle most commonly operates in, such as the regolith and ice fields of airless moons in the outer system.
While often criticized as being cramped and noisy, the Grogir nevertheless provides a high degree of protection and fire support for its team.
The Tuklat-166 (Jakkari: Stronghold/Bastion) is an armored assault gun employed by the Jakkari military in a heavy assault capacity. Equipped with thick layers of molybdenum armor and numerous video-operated defensive sponsons, the Tuklat is well-suited to leading assaults against fortified positions. Eschewing the gas cannon favored by its counterpart, the Turgu, the Tuklat employs a massive artillery gun as its primary weapon, with the hull being purpose-built to accommodate it. This gun is manually loaded by the crew and is used primarily for direct attacks against bunkers and other entrenched positions. It can also be used in an indirect fire capacity, serving as a mortar.
As the heaviest ground vehicle in the Jakkari arsenal, the Tuklat gives up speed and maneuverability for defense, allowing it to endure a tremendous amount of enemy fire. The screw drive motors are upsized and reinforced to help the vehicle gain traction and provide torque, while the more powerful engine has the downside of consuming more fuel.
With five gas gun sponsons and a commander’s turret, the Tuklat is more than capable of wading through enemy infantry and fortifications, as well as supporting the dismounted troops advancing with it. To reflect this role, it has extra power sockets on its flanks, allowing more suits to charge their batteries and remain operational.
Due to its size and weight, the Tuklat can be in serious trouble if it gets stuck, often requiring an Anzud skycrane for recovery.
The Kirig-87 (Jakkari: Seeker/Courier) is a light recon vehicle used by the Jakkari military in a scout and light tank role. With lighter armor than any of its counterparts and a streamlined hull design, the Kirig is able to achieve much higher speeds than its contemporaries. The elongated screw drives and relatively powerful engine contribute to its mobility, while the augmented suspension system helps it tackle difficult terrain. This allows the Kirig to roam far ahead of allied formations, flank around enemy positions, and probe for weaknesses behind the lines. Aiding in intelligence collection is a powerful radar system mounted on the rear of the hull.
Dual gas guns mounted in low-profile turrets give the Kirig offensive and defensive options, allowing it to punch above its weight. This enables it to act in a light tank role, harassing enemy positions and taking out targets of opportunity before using its array of countermeasures to disengage and break line of sight.
Despite being only lightly armored, the Kirig’s firepower and ease of maintenance have earned it a respected position among the troops.
The Anzud-64 (Jakkari: Great Bird) is a multi-role aircraft used by the Jakkari military. While originally conceived as a heavy transport, its operators quickly realized that its lift capacity would allow it to perform more functions, and various modifications and refits have resulted in the craft we see in service today.
While the Anzud appears outwardly very large and bulky, most of its mass is taken up by the cargo pod. The airframe itself consists of a spine-like hull that runs over the top of the pod, and the four mechanical arms that clamp down around it, which house both the landing gear and thruster pods. Both forward and rear-facing engines are mounted high on the craft, while the cockpit area is slung down in front of the pod for optimal visibility. A small hatch at the rear of the cockpit that mates to the pod allows the crew to pass between them if necessary. The Anzud is perfectly capable of flying in this configuration without a cargo pod, where it may be used as a skycrane to transport heavy or inconvenient loads, and as a recovery vehicle.
The versatility of the Anzud comes from the variety of cargo pods that it can carry. These pods slot in beneath the craft and are securely held in place by its powerful clamps. Some common configurations include:
- Heavy transport for rapid deployment of armored vehicles to the combat zone. The Anzud is capable of lifting everything from a Kirig light tank to a Tuklat armored assault gun and can drop vehicles directly into battle if necessary.
- A bomber variant with integrated bomb bay allows the Anzud to act in a tactical air-to-ground role, launching dumb bombs, torpedoes, and nuclear weapons from its munition carousels.
- The troop transport variant allows the Anzud to ferry multiple teams of soldiers in combat armor to the ground, deploying them rapidly under the cover of smoke launchers mounted on the rear of the hull.
- The close air support configuration transforms the Anzud into a gunship, augmenting its ability to deal damage with two supplemental gas gun ball turrets, a rocket pod, and a side-mounted gas cannon of the same kind seen on Turgu MBTs.
Featuring thick plating similar to that seen on armored vehicles, defensive smoke launchers, and top-mounted chaff and flare pods, the Anzud has earned the nickname of flying tank for its legendary resilience. As well as being a capable and versatile platform, the Anzud is a perfect example of Jakkari ingenuity in the face of scarcity and hardship.
