Ten years ago today, I uploaded my first story to the internet. That story was Uninvited, an XCOM 2 fanfiction. It was pretty short and pretty basic, and I wasn’t much good at writing yet, but people enjoyed it, and they encouraged me to keep going. I released Pinwheel not long after.
Thanks to a random turn-based strategy game that happened to have one sexy enemy I liked, I now have a career that has spanned a decade and I’m nearing eighty published works.
Back then, I would never have imagined that doing this would become my full-time job, or that I’d have a sci-fi universe of my own with a huge community of readers.
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to spend all day writing for you guys, and to have the means to create artwork and comics and audiobooks. It’s a privilege to be able to work with so many talented people and to have them expand and enrich the stories I tell.
My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has supported me and encouraged me and shared their enthusiasm for my work.
Since today is the tenth anniversary, I thought it would be appropriate to rewrite and expand that original story. I tried to preserve the tone and intent of the original as much as possible while updating the more technical aspects like grammar and punctuation. I hope you guys enjoy the little surprise.
Big thanks to Meklab for creating such a great cover on such short notice.
Oh, and happy 4th of July to my American readers!
